Opened last night on my 65th. I had wondered over the years how this would hold up. I need not have worried. It is still young and fresh. Deep Ruby color is still there. The nose is fabulous with cassis and cedar and the palate is outstanding with rich red currant fruit, cassis, and, just a hint of oak. This has aged magnificently, and clearly lives up to its reputation. 5-13-18-9: 95/100.

Four decades of Penfolds Grange (Chicago, IL): This felt muted on the nose, with lots of earthiness and maybe a hint of mint as well. The fruit was relatively and sweet, the tannins backwards and rustic. But the earthiness gave way to corkiness with more time.

Another great Grange, opened the bottled 3 hours before drinking it, the wine was excellent but my preference is to drink Grange as I opened it and observe it evolve over a few hours.

Delicious at 20 ! Deep juice and starting to show its age… like me! 😃 Perfectly aged bottle and it’s immensely enjoyable!!!! Had with half a rack of herb & panko crushed lamb, with blueberry yogurt sauce. Veggies of course ! Fabulous pairing.

Drinking beautifully with lots of life ahead. If anything, this is just beginning to hit its stride. Rich lush fruit, anise, licorice, baking spice, and leather.
