  • Tremendous. Red fruit, loamy earth, aged leather. Plenty of integration and purity here.

  • Remarkable! Tremendous rubbish colour, old fashioned came to my mind once I uncorked it, seriousness on the palate bordering to austereness, strict fruit selection! At a great point in its life. Very well made, a wine for the nerds allow me to say!

  • This was the last wine opened and I paid the least attention to it, regrettably. A bigger version of Magdelaine and with the cocoa dusted fruit and leather with a limestone tinged lift. Very silky. Next time, I'll open a bottle of this on it's own. Not a crime to revisit now, but will probbaly be a wine that improves for a long time. Back in 2015 this was the favorite in a blind tasting 1998 right bank horizontal with heavier hitters (not the heaviest, naturally) and this bottle did nothing to dissuade me from that.

  • 6/12, vg cork, decanted 1/2 hour.
Medium/deep garnet core, pale garnet rim. Nose shows pure red fruit - strawberry, touch of cranberry, soil, tea, florals. Quietly aromatic. Medium bodied, strawberry fruit again, lovely texture, quite velvety but with elegance and charm too, notes of tea and soil, fresh acids, long finish with a touch of firmnes still at tail end. Excellent though and certainly drinking (no hurry of course!)

  • French theme dinner at Highland. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl 1855. From decanter over 2 hours.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of menthol, polished oak veneer, blackberries, blackcurrant, earth, violets. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), structured high tannins, full body. Meidum+ flavour intensity, with flavours of spice, polished oak veneer, sweet blackberries, blackcurrant, menthol, violet juice, earth. Very long finish.
Excellent quality. Still so much life. Very complex. Lots of freshness.
