  • deep ruby. Rustic and earthy, with good dark fruit, and a stony deep meaty- leathery mouthfeel. This is not elegant, but interestingly rustic and wild, with somewhat unchecked acidity, that actually works very well with the density and chewy rustic mouthfeel, essentially taking you on a contrasting ride without a seatbelt. Very long finish with chewy tannins. Complex enough to hold your attention. A very good pizza wine, which is what it was tonight. 88 pts

  • A very good bottle of Dolcetto d'Alba, although a little more expensive - $28 - than I would normally spend for this type of wine. Right out of the bottle the nose intially had some significant funk that blew off after about 20 - 30 minutes, giving way to pronounced strawberry and cherry aromas. There was ample, very forward sweet red fruit on the palate, but the acidity balanced it out very well. Not a sophisticated or structured wine (then again not what you would expect from Dolcetto d'Alba), it went very well with the pizza. At a sub $20 price point, this wine would become a great daily drinker.
