With Chimichura Pork Chops and sweet potato. Clean medium ruby, good color to the edge. Nice sweet cheery nose. Medium weight, acid, tobacco sliding over to perhaps a hint of savory with a finish bordering on sweet. The acid is filling in for tannins, keeping the flab away. Maybe quirky and no score, but a very good wine. Certainly not same-o/same-o fruit bomb-o.
This was a deliciously quirky wine, classic Bonny Doon. Was a nice match with ricotta canneloni my wife made. The archetypical strawberries of the freisa stood out, but it had enough oomph to stand up to the tomato sauce. I didn't find it to be at all bitter. A glassful was left in the capped bottle for two days, and on the third day had taken on an interesting savory note, a bit like steak sauce. If they still have it the next time I'm in Santa Cruz, I'm inclined to pick up another bottle. In the spirit of the wine's full name, "Imagine (No Point Scores)", I shall leave this review scoreless.
