Burgundy Tasting (Restaurant Brunnenstube, Beinstein): Tasted blind. Clear, deep ruby-garnet color. Smoky, dense nose. On the palate smoky, some speck, herbaceous, high acidity, fine, beautiful tannin. Balanced and elegant, long, lingering finish. Seams to me at its peak. 93-94

Académie des Cinquante Burgundy - Germany Tasting (Overveen): Tasted blind. Beautifully matured Burgundy, flirting with Grand Cru level, cool minerality, meaty, undergrowth, matière, perfumed, earth, firm tannins, very good length. An impressively complete package - even more so for a 2007.

This was outstanding tonight, one of the best bottles I have tasted in a very long time. I rated it highly when last drunk in 2020, and this was even better. In a wonderful place now but no hurry to drink - I am going to try and save my last bottle to see what its like at 20+ years.
Medium garnet. On the nose, dried dark cherries, clove, liquorice, Chinese tea, smoke, forest floor, mushroom. Fully developed. Dry, high acidity, med tannins, fine, palate similar to the nose but with so many layers of flavour that change in the glass and on the palate, long finish. Oak well integrated, plenty of fruit concentration. At peak, but likely to have a long plateau, given the structure and the fruit concentration.

In beautiful shape right now. Last tried a few years ago, it was too big and under-developed. It’s really come of age now and is easily one of the best burgundies I’ve tried in the last year (up against some pretty stiff competition). I have a few bottles left but don’t see a rush to drink them - pretty sure trying it in 2027 will bring great results
