My 50th at the Ledbury (The Ledbury, London): Two halves, absolutely consistent. Mid to deep amber. Orange blossom, barley sugar and obvious botrytis on the nose. Still a good sense of sweetness on the attack, mid palate balanced with good acidity, and a positive mid length finish. ****

Nose is pears poached with cloves, Seville orange, a touch of burnt sugar. Palate is lively, with good tension between the bitter orange marmalade/brûlée & the honeyed stonefruit. This is full maturity Sauternes, arrived at one of my favorite places for this style of wine without any varnish or other flaw. Had with ricotta gnocchi, sauteed asparagus, Reggiano in a lemon/vermouth cream sauce which was an adequate match. How this bottle ended up so delicious is a mystery.

This bottle was so perfectly mature with such delicate Sauternes notes of clove spice, dried apricot and crème brulee. Light and ethereal with a hauntingly complex finish which went so well with the Foi Gras. Hard to believe the quality from such a lost vintage.

Great dark orange golden color. Sweet tones in de nose of some ripe fruit. In the mouth the orange zest bitters made it well balanced also because of the fresh acids from lime and orange were still very much present. Great wine!
