(DRC Richebourg) It was on to a trio of super-heroic Burgundies, beginning with my 1966 DRC Richebourg, which had a great nose. It was ‘sexy and velevety,’ per the Hillbilly, but he might have been talking about something else lol. The nose was super sexy, so sweet and forward with loads of red fruits, baby powder, oatmeal and brown sugar. The palate also had lots of oatmeal and brown sugar, outlined in chalk. The finish was a bit dirty with some bitter citrus twists. This was a ‘take me now’ wine, a quality the Hillbilly likes in many ways. Its flavors were very autumnal and menthol started to take over; there was a lot going on in this mature and tasty Richebourg. It might have been a touch advanced, but not enough to make its way into the score (93).

(DRC Richebourg) The last flight of Burgundy was a fitting closer, beginning with a stellar 1966 DRC Richebourg. Aromas of vitamins, spice, spine, roses and cherry spilled out of the glass like beautiful body parts out of a designer dress. The palate was rich and hearty, full of acid, instantly achieving check plus plus plus status. Flavors of vitamin, citrus, rose, light leather and carob made it lip-smackingly good, along with touches of forest floor and animal cage. I was seduced by the Richebourg and left begging for more (96).

(DRC Richebourg) had a reticent nose by comparison but still possessed divine, fat, nutty fruit to its nose. There was this almost indescribable aroma of hot earth with its first sprinkle of summer rain. There was amazing power here as well; a lot of oomph but somehow reined in. The wine seemed to be spilling out of its bra. There was rose, mature cherry fruit and leather on the palate. George found it to be the third best wine of the flight, but still .18 ½. points. There were good dry tannins, and the wine was sneakily long
