This wine is in a good place right now with its silky tannins. On the palate it reminds me of ripe plums, figs and blackberries. It also has a savory side with notes of garrigue, saddle leather and rosemary.
Same as my note from Nov 2011: "Dark spicy fruits and blueberry, dusty tannins, and a medium finish. Drinkable now and great with food, good value." I'd add black tea to that as well. However, instead of gaining any secondary complexities the fruit has faded leaving the alcohol more noticeable, and the body of the wine has become lighter. I'd drink these up in the next year.
The nose is reticent, but on the palate I am enjoying ripe plums, dark fruits, leather, garrigue, blackberries and black tea. The tannins are soft and the wine has a nice long finish to it. I do agree that the alcohol percentage is a little heady. Sort of like a Ridge Zinfandel in that respect.
