Pleasant wine to drink on its own. Dark cherry color with light cherry nose. Some tannin still present to provide the wine with some backbone but the tannins are not forward. Subdued (meaning much less fruit-forward than many New World wines) dark stone fruit is the primary taste on the tongue with some tobacco at the end.

"Cheap" wines from Austria, Argentina and Spain: rancid butter on the nose is rarely a good thing as the first impression of a wine. if you add to this some harsh acidity which is completely disjointed with the fruit-butter cocktail upfront, you're in serious trouble.

a meaty character, overly extracted in my opinion, but without any real stuffing. acidity is out of balance. so much less enjoyable than the lighter style i've seen this grape appear in.

No formal notes taken. A pleasure to drink. Light, fruity, spicy and intense. High acid.
