A solid performance, good Hochheim typicity, earth and ripe fruit, lovely weight, but with less energy, definition and length than one would hope for in a 2008. Could it be that the production of a separate Auslese Goldkapsel Trocken (carrying a premium of more than 50% over the EG) has taken away some of the quality of the "standard" EG?
From 75cl, perfect cork, with a diamond-shimmering Weinstein crust. All my previous TNs for this wine ring true. This is a wonderful, monumental, stone-hard, salt-tinged, mountain of a Hölle... Barely a hint of Riesling fruit left. I'd drink this sooner rather than later, but it all depends what you like. 91P
Lovely, impressive, aromatic nose, with freshness, nuance, typicity and depth; the palate is relatively light and fresh for a Künstler Hölle EG (determined by the vintage), but its energy seems a bit limited and this is reflected on the relatively slight and short finish. I agree with aquacongas that this is fully mature now - and slightly disappointing apart from the nose.
Drank over 2 days. A little bit disappointed. Typical Rheingau Riesling, some pineapple, topical fruits in nose and palate, medium body and minerality, a bit too one-dimensional in the finish,no change day 2. maybe me at his peak, still joyable over the next 3-4 years, clear fresh acidity, no petrol signs, try the next bottle in 3 years
