  • Tight, with distinct wood notes, emerging black licorice, and black and dark purple fruit. Tannins clearly felt on palate. Not overly expressive today, but all of the elements are here for a strong evolutionary curve. Drink the 99 Chambertin first and save the Beze. 96-97+

  • Annual gathering with Chicago winos in Chicago - Burgs, SQNs and Cult cabs (David Burke's Primehouse): Much better showing than then the last bottle from last year. Incredibly expressive and perfectly harmonious nose displaying concentrated blackberry, cranberry, rose, smoke and coffee. Exceptionally concentrated yet perfectly harmonious palate, beautifully layered airy fruit, silky and polished, good acidity, nicely integrated tannins and long intense black fruit driven finish that resonates. Very youthful but perfectly enjoyable. No noticeable tertiary development, no sous bois for sure. Need at least another decade but perhaps two to reach the peak. Incredible showing.

  • Wine Dinner Extravaganza (David Burke's Primehouse - Chicago IL): This wine just keeps getting better with more time. Black cherry, berry aromas and flavors with roasted meat, licorice and great depth with near-perfect balance. Great today, this was consensus WOTN, with lots of upside.

  • Young and young. But drinking well, needs another 10+ years to be fully approachable. Attractive red fruit with cherry predominant, plus some black raspberry. Hint of sappiness. Bright on frontpalate but starting to show depth across the midpalate. Confident and composed, but not brash, still a lot of upside to this wine. 96+

  • Really beautiful nose of crushed cherries and minerals. Silky, softer and more elegant than I expected (at least this bottle) but it held well in the glass for 3 hours and continued to improve. Beautiful sweet cherry fruit along with fine silty minerals lead to a finish that I can only describe as one of the most complex Burgundies I've ever experienced. This bottle is seemingly perfectly mature now with a good decant but it is from a different source than most of my other bottles which seem younger. Either way, it is fantastic juice! Rousseau does not offer the refinement of DRC or the structure of say Vogue or Roumier, but to me his wines have an exotic side that produces a kaleidescope of flavors including incredible wild and medicinal cherry along with the classic ferrous minerals of Gevrey. These are Burgundies with soul and unparalled complexity with proper age. 97+
