Paul D's Chandon de Briailles @ 28-50 (28-50, Fetter Lane, London): Pale garnet. A nicely meaty, fragrant, still slightly fruity nose with some caramel. Lovely. Beautifully sweet, rounded fruit with impressive body (without being overdone). Sweet and lovely. ****1/2

Very dark, brick at the edge. Smells of salted Chinese plums; sweet, saline, fruit, smoke. Perfumed, heady; very impressive. Vibrant, fresh, well balanced, smoke again, dark fruit, iodine, Islay peat. Shows what this vineyard is capable of, really very good wine. Traditional Burgundy at its best and tasting the 96,01 and 02 alongside it they may well turn out like this.
