  • Thanksgiving Dinner (Lumina, San Francisco): Decanted off significant sediment. Medium-deep ruby, still quite youthful color with a bit of bricking; aromatic, intense blackcurrant and capsicum, classic cabernet nose, some forest floor; palate is full bodied, black fruit still present, high tannin is approachable but not fully integrated even at this age, relatively low-medium alcohol, medium-plus acidity; finish is medium-long. Incredibly well balanced, classic Dunn profile, drinking perfectly now.

  • From Magnum
Well… clipped on the finish and slightly muted fruit after an hour in the decanter. Classic Dunn black currant, black cherry, tobacco, brett, earth and spice. As the night progressed, the finish lengthened and the wine filled out. - 5 hours in the decanter and the wine is long, well fruited with good mouthfeel. In this format- I would wait 5 years. In 750- give it a go, but decant for sure.

  • Thanksgiving (Home, Millbrae): Durand to remove cork, saved the last 1/4 inch from breaking off. Deep ruby; intense aromatics from decanter and the glass, blackberry jam, capsicum, fresh blackcurrant, forest floor, trademark slight mint or eucalyptus; palate is full bodied, sweet blackberry fruit, medium-plus acidity kicks in early in the palate and carries a freshness through the finish, low alcohol (13.0%), tannins still present and provide some structure but mostly integrated, some forest floor but still largely fruit driven; finish is medium length and not quite as long as the top-notch complexity on the nose and palate would imply. Overall, a superb california cabernet made in a classic style, at maturity but not at all in danger of going over the hill (will probably last a decade or longer from here). One of my better bottles out of the many I have tasted. 95
Update: Nose fades just a bit after ~4 hours open in a decanter. This was definitely ready to go from the moment I opened the bottle.

  • Best Dunn yet and baby it was this worth the wait. I read my 2015 90-point review predicting a bright future. The future is now. Great cab.

  • From small bottles from Seth. Seth man, I'm not really getting this wine, it seems like ripe young red Burgundy. It's raw and uncivilized, a bit raspy on the edge. You think it's classic, aged, and very herbal? Oh well. Wait a minute - what? Oh shit, I'm drinking the wrong wine! Once I got the bottles sorted out, I cottoned on to what a great wine this (relatively) old Dunn is. Wow, so graceful, a bed of delicious cedary cab fruit, a bit of rusty iron, tons of herbal wildness, some nice tannic grip still, and just plain class. Showing just as well on the second day, too. The nose grows spicier with air - just a winner. In a great place now and forever.
