  • Interesting to read my note from 2013, almost 10 yrs ago. So much for my limited aging prediction, as this was still an excellent Syrah. Dinner party setting, everyone loved it. There's something about a well aged wine where everything has integrated into a savory depth that has mellowed a bit (no, not faded!), but still plenty of character and delicious.

  • This pours medium purple in the glass. The nose is rich and ripe showing low complexity. Aromas are of blueberry, blueberry jam, a touch of smoked meat, tar, licorice, thyme and a fair whack of alcohol. The palate shows rich deep blueberry fruit with a lightly creamy mid-palate. Tannin is medium minus and acid is medium minus. There is a distinctly tarry note on the mid-palate. The finish is very alcoholic and richly fruited, with the 15% alcohol on full display. This wine straddles the line between old world and new world, but leans to modernity a little too much for my palate. The fruit is lightly jammy and the alcohol way too high. The redeeming factors are some old world secondary notes, but these are vague and not well defined. It's quite remarkable how undeveloped this is. Comes across much younger than its 15 years of age. In my view, not a great wine. If tasted blind I'd likely guess Chateauneuf-du-Pape or a very ripe and modern Northern Rhone such as a Chapoutier from the last 20 or so years.

  • Still showing ample fruit, with cedar and tobacco notes around the edges

  • Agree with JOHHNY C NYC, drinking beautifully and nicely matured. Saved a glass for 24 hours later and it degraded a bit. Recommend to drink now, I( don't think it will improve.

  • It was one of the guy's 40th year with the company so a dozen of us took him out to lunch. Along with the drinks they all had I opened two bottle of this wine. The nose is all fruit. The palate is berries, cherry, plums, tobacco and spices. The finish was moderate to long. Still has years to go.
