This bottle was a gift from a neighbor who found it in his Father's basement after he died. This 4th growth estate owns 70 hectares of gravelly vineyards in the Margaux appellation. The estate vineyards are planted to 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. In 1963 it was owned by Alexis Lichine (who bought the estate in 1951). 1963 was a substandard vintage in Bordeaux. Low to mid shoulder fill. I did not expect much from this wine and had a backup waiting. Not decanted. The cork came out in 1 piece with an ah-so and was soaked. Light red color with some bricking which was an excellent sign as I expected a brown color. This was actually rather drinkable. Smooth texture with fine subtle tannins. An earthy wine with light red fruit notes and a touch of sourness on the finish. Good acidity. 83 points.
