Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • Served in a GlasVin Universal. Fruit / 1009 hPa.

A bottle graciously shared by a friend with a solid 7-8cm of ullage. Alarming, but the wine was clear and bright, and thus some hope it may yet be alive. A dark clear ruby with a garnet/bricked rim. The nose initially was slightly maderized and stewed, but it immediately began to lift after 5-10 minutes. Over the next two hours, it opened brilliantly in the glass, shedding the maderization, and revealing a core of fruit with dried cherries and figs, sous bois, and cedarwood spice. Undeniably alive, and it continued to undulated into different layers of complexity by the last sip. A real privilege to try and for it to be relatively sound given the ullage condition. A true testament to the enigma that is wine... how was this bottle still alive, let along how was it at its best 2+ hours after opening? Astonishing.
