  • Another OMG wine.
The second vintage of this mysterious cuvée exclusively produced for auctions.
Only in magnums, the nose and palate reminded me the 1989 Haut-Brion (seriously!)
I was like in the Neverland, surrounded by endless aromas and aftertaste.
The price of this magnum is largely the same as 1989 Haut-Brion (in bottle), so what else are you looking for?

  • Winemaker's dinner with Philippe Guigal (Operakällaren, Stockholm): Medium red, some brick at the edge. Nose with blackberries, blackcurrants, animal notes with charcuteries, leather, barnyard, discrete herbaceous notes, noticeably flowery notes with violets. Medium bodied+, blackberries, ripe cherries, quite good acidity, medium tannins, spice. Classical development in the nose and on the palate, with a clear Côte-Rôtie style. Fully developed, but should be able to take 10+ more years in the cellar with no problems, 93 p.
A unique experience considering that the total production volume of this wine was 150 magnums in the 1990 vintage, and that it has so far only been produced in the vintages 1989, 1990 and 2005. To me, this wine is at about the same level as the best vintages of Château d’Ampuis. I found it interesting to note that the typical Guigal style wasn’t as pronounced in this wine, due to the presence of some herbaceous notes and a quite present acidity. This wine simply came across as a very classical and mature high class Côte-Rôtie.

  • This is really a special and extremely rare wine!
Brought to Stockholm by Philippe Guigal for tonight’s Guigal tasting.
This Hommage to Philippe’s grandfather, Etienne, have only been made in three vintages, 1989, 1990 and 2005, and only in magnums.
150 magnums was all that was produced in 1990, that’s all.
This bottles have never been released on the market, but the small amounts that has been sold has mainly been sold on charity auctions etc., so a rare bird indeed!
    Two bottles was opened tonight.
This is very mature, but have loads of life left in it.
The nose and palate both shows very Bordeaux like to me, with stable and barnyard, leather, cassis, gravel and dust, pencil shavings and tobacco.
Lovely mature Syrah, very balanced and with fine and silky tannins, a good body and a solid spine with good acidity.
Still, I must say that it is a notch below the La, La, La wines I have had during the years, and in no way being a disappointment, perhaps expectations where at bit higher from my side.
Maybe mainly because of this bottling being such a rare wine perhaps?
    Very lovely and enjoyable indeed!
