On tour with Tim and Phil day three (Beechworth and Glenrowan): Savoury, fruit cake, baked red fruits, a little peppery spice. Juicy tends to (adjusted?) medium plus intensity acidity, blackberry, plum, a little herbaceous underpin, grippy and slightly drying tannins, feeling a little disjointed. Hmm

Plums, blackberry, a touch of clay, prune, alcohol prickle and, a little oddly, touches of tomato leaf. In the mouth there is alcohol warmth, drying chalky tannins, both of which dominate the palate, unfortunately everything else rather struggles beneath this.

Cotes du Rhone (Frank's place in Matraville): From Coravin. Slightly volatile/balsamic red berry and cherry, baked compote, alcohol lends spice here as well, a little tomato leaf, with time a little floral, perfumed top note. juicy, fleshy, savoury, surprisingly (considering the vintage) fresh, slightly chalky tannins which prove a touch green, slight bitter red and blackberry fruit, alcohol warmth present but not intrusive on the finish. Hmm.

Totally over delivered. Started oddly sappy and flat. 1hr in and it came together as a lovely integrated aged red. Not heavy on complexity and nuance but the balance and smoothness was actually sublime. 2hrs in and even better. Wouldn't say it's got many years ahead of it. This bottle had been perfectly cellared and seal was ideal.

(GUIGAL COTES DU RHONE RED) VaynerPASS; NOSE-like Mr. Clean, minty green, fresh cut grass, awkward; TASTE-"fake wine"; it's smooth & silky, nice mouth feel, not to be confused w/ high quality wine, solid for $9, but not very complex or rich; RP-88, GV-86

Last bottle, still very much alive. Raspberry and herbs on the nose. Medium bodied with soft tannins and more raspberries in the mouth.
