  The first ever vintage of Passopisciaro.
  
  Moderately translucent and still surprisingly youthful dark cherry color. Ripe, juicy and dark-toned nose with quite sweetly-fruited and somewhat developed aromas of wizened dark berries, some volcanic smoky character, a little bit of ripe cranberries and a hint of sweet raisiny fruit. The wine is juicy, medium-bodied and ripe on the palate with fruit-forward flavors of red berries, succulent dark plums, some sour cherry bitterness, a little bit of smoky spices, light raisiny tones, a hint of developed dried red fruits and a touch of stone minerality. The wine feels very balanced and quite high in acidity, yet the age has mellowed down the wine, making it come across as quite silky and round on the palate. The rather light tannins contribute more to the texture than to the structure. The finish is sweet-toned, rich and medium-to-moderately long with very mellow tannic grip and quite juicy flavors of wizened dark berries and black cherries, some strawberries, a little bit of cherry marmalade and a hint of raisiny fruit.
  
  A stylish, nicely developed and harmonious Sicilian red that is starting to show its age, but still has some potential for further development. I doubt the wine will benefit much from further aging, but I doubt this wine will go anywhere except maybe up from here until its 20th birthday. Overall a pleasant and harmonious effort that shows the high quality and aging capability of Passopisciaro. Not a big or flashy wine, but instead one with relaxed air of balance to it.
