  • Heater week; 3/8/2024-3/17/2024 (Chicago, IL): Late release. Too young! This feels a decade younger than it is -- all structure and acid; slightly angular and missing almost any secondary characteristics. If anything this feels like it's in some dumb phase between primary and secondary. Impressively youthful, but better to let these rest for even longer.

  • Two hour decant but it wasn’t really needed. Although saving a glass for Day 2 is recommended. Like all Chave Hermitage, this one was effortlessly perfect. Never showy. Just so easy, comfortable, familiar. A powerful wine that’s exceedingly airy. Savory and acidic. Leather and cherries. So silky. Finish for days. Just such a treat.

  • 7 of 13. Decanted @ 2:00 served @ 8:00. As soon as I pulled the cork I was struck how the quickly the fresh fruited bouquet lept from the bottle. Initially the palate was tight. After two hours in the decanter the palate started to open and reeveal layered red fruit, smoked meat and leather. Good acidity, fine tannins, excellent balance, silky texture and an elegant and a persistent finish. This continued to open and show impressive focus over the evening. Best sips were last sips . This and the 1998 which I had a few weeks ago are both in early maturity and should improve over the next 10-15 years

  • Gorgeous red and dark fruit on the nose, slight
smokiness, still so much fruit and depth.
