Community Tasting Notes (93) Avg Score: 90.1 points

  • From a Magnum. Cork intact with a bit of sediment attached. No 24 year old Pinot Noir should be so dark in color; Mr. Etzel what have you bottled? The nose is sun warmed fruit and aged strawberry preserves plus elderly fumes.

A complete taste, sweet fruit, gentle acid, afterthought of tannin. Not comparable to a Burgundy, too textured, fruity and strawberry rich. Nor comparable to Oregon Pinots, too generous and full of grace.

Sincerely regret I cannot share this Bottle with all readers - fellow passengers on the journey, tasting life's gifts sip by sip, glass by glass.

  • Intact cork. Color absurdly dark for a 21 year old Pinot Noir. Candied spice nose with hard to place aroma - can it be mushroom cologne? Yes! Intense sweet fruit saturated with spices and dry herbs. If the acid were more prominent and the fruit less sweet, the 2000 Beaux Freres would displace any 21 year old Burgundy. Should a taster complain about sweet fruit in a 21 year old wine or raise a glass to celebrate surviving 21 years to enjoy it?

  • Decanted 90 minutes. Still going strong with savory red fruit, nutty tannins and acid, medium finish. My last bottle of five but no rush.

  • Feels Very odd to be drinking a 2000 Oregon Pinot so many years after ... purchase from winery mailing list, 9/11, retirement, move to sunnier days... (one reason for choosing my retirement spot was seeing delivery of a Beaux Freres at a local restaurant)
well balanced fruit, age, some leaf, will pair well with my quiche. What seems hard to believe is the lack of brown rim - different from aging many subsequent BFs with higher tannin, less fruit. Cork intact, also unlike many later pinots from BF.
