  • Sometime the opening act can tell you much about the wine. The nose had an essence of spice, an allure of something exciting to come. Well, upon the first taste, the wine opened itself in quite a delicate and discrete manner. Sweet, dark plum and cherry followed by spices through the middle palate and it ends with a lingering savoury note. Quite a dry wine and high on acidity. It had depth of complexity and layers of flavours that make the wine very enjoyable. Quite an intellectual wine and the good Doctor would have enjoyed it immensely. One of more interesting Bordeaux blends.

  • I've had mixed success with this iconic Oz wine, but this one was rather nice.

Dark and youthful, but with a tinge of brown on the edge. Not too complex on the nose. General black berries with a strong hit of curry spice and cumin. Surprisingly sweet on entry. Red fruit - cherry, strawberry. Turns savory on the mid-palate. Bittersweet chocolate, smoke, pepper. Rather high acidity, but that's balanced by the fruit sweetness. Soft tannins. Pop and pour is fine. Good length although there's a touch of bitterness coming through at the end. Excellent at this stage, but no hurry to drink up.

    66% Cabernet, 20% Merlot, 10% Malbec, 4% Petit Verdot.
