Popped and poured. Rich aroma of beeswax. Bittersweet flavors of stone fruit, honey, among others. Apricot pit in the finish. Full-bodied, firm backbone, complex, great staying power. Absolutely amazing, Chidaine at his best.

An absolutely fantastic bottle that’s right at its peak to my taste. Descriptions below are in the ballpark, so I’ll just add that there’s a very distinctive minerality that really stands out next to all the usual chenin attributes and gives this wine it’s identity. (I won’t try to describe it, so as to not subject readers to a bunch of half-ass similes. But it’s good.). No rush to open but no need to wait.

Absolutley outstanding Chenin! You always get a little nervous opening an 'older' Chidaine (especially a 2008) but as soon as this poured a light yellow color with a green tinge, any pre-mox fears I had were immediately erased. This is still all about the bright, lemon acidity that electrifies your palate and then dances across your tongue with green apples and a hint of honey on the finish. So fresh, so clean, and soooo delicious. Certainly some bottle variation as evident by all the CT notes....but this particular bottle was absolute FIRE!!

Last magnum; I drank nearly three cases of discounted 750mls and this was my last of three magnums. I was delighted to see this poured with a green-flecked yellow color, as I feared that oxygen might've crept in when I needed to temporarily store this in my normal fridge during times of overload in the Eurocave and half fridge. Those green flecks immediately assuaged my fears, and the wine felt as fresh as could be--finished very quickly by our group and I couldn't be happier with how the fruit vs acidity and freshness all lined up.

Last of 2 bottles. Rich lychee, apple, tangerine, and beeswax, all balanced on a blade of rather firm acidity. A bit unctuous for my palate, but I get the Chenin vibe from this Montlouis...quite interesting, and delicious in smallish doses. Drink now through 2025+.
