pol roger for great britain extra dry extra cuvee reserve 1906 pol roger & co epernay by royal warrant to his majesty the king: that deals with the label; cost 8 pounds sterling + auctioneers commission 15% on which VAT 15% - July 2009. the cork was fragile with evidence of seepage so we drank it. black cork hard as old oak and 2/3rds eaten away, v v low shoulder, in the glass, still and initially white with rich and alcoholic smell, after 3 minutes turned brown and tasted like bog standard fizz, after 5 minutes turned white again, and tasted refined but not rich any longer. most enjoyable experience.
