  • Sat 45 minutes in the bottle after popping the cork. Light color with some bricking. Bit of a funk on the nose at first pour. Was a little worried the trail was maybe longer than the moccasins. The fist sip had a surprisingly soft almost velvety mouth feel with initial hints of smoky moist twigs and a tight muted black cherry finish that evolved nicely in the glass as the funk blew off. A bite of soft cheese brought out the dark fruits a bit. Will finish off the remaining 5 bottles sourced recently from Wine bid sooner than later. Next bottle will pair with a 2010 vintage in December. Appears the bottles were properly stored as there was a ring of sediment in the neck. Will decant carefully future bottles.

  • - Crimsom color - Love the wine and roman. Something wrong with the past 2 bottles I've opened of 04 merlot. Light in color and a bit "skunky"

New York Cork Report

(The Grapes of Roth Merlot Long Island, New York) Made with fruit grown by Sam McCullough in his vineyard in Cutchogue (McCullough is also the vineyard manager at The Lenz Winery), this classy Long Island merlot displays bright red cherry aromas with pencil lead, minty menthol and gently earthy tobacco notes on the nose. Elegant and seamless, the medium-bodied palate brings more, fresh red cherry flavors at first with subtle cinnamon spice that emerges with time in the glass. Framed by ripe, restrained tannins, the earthy-tobacco character from the nose steps forward on the palate on day two, teaming with minty-thyme flavors to bring depth and complexity, leading into a long, classy finish with distinct minerally flavors of pencil lead and wet gravel.
