A very strange experience, when opened the wine was big, round and soft, very reminiscent of the Foley made Pride Claret of this era. However, over the course of the next two hours, the fruit faded and a tannic base remained. Not unpleasant, but not what I was expecting.
I'm not sure what to think of this one. This bottle tastes even more youthful than the last, and the last one was three years ago, in a magnum! This tastes like I just popped open the bottle as soon as the UPS man delivered it. Very primary and dense and no hints of secondary notes, despite its age and varietal composition. Some noticeable heat on the finish, even though it was only 14.1%. By the end of the meal, it was starting to show a bit of mocha and gravelly notes. I would say this wine today reminded me of some Pride Cab Francs. A great wine still, but also not necessarily worthy of the price point.
