  • Some oxidation but not from premox, I think -- just a tiring 14 year-old village wine. Still showing the character of that particular part of Meursault. Celared since release

  • Casual (Mostly) Burg Dinner with Friends (Abigail's American Bistro - Highland Park IL): Reticent start, and while more fruit and spice emerged with air, the pleasure never really emerged vs the structure, giving a slightly lean edge throughout, particularly on finish.

  • Yellow gold. Sherried nose with stony minerals and shy citrus fruits in the background. The flavors are more integrated with same sherry, stony minerals, and citrus fruits. The acid is brisk. The fruit is diminished. With time, the wine becomes unbalanced. This wine lacks material and mid palette depth making the acid more aggressive. This ends up a very raw wine. It's past its prime.

  • An elegant wine showing some early stage signs of maturity.
Dry dusty nose with slight carmel sweetness and a mineral element.
Medium body with flavors closely aligned to aromas. Dry, slightly lean quality. Well balanced and nuanced. More about the weight and mouth filling texture than the flavors, which a bit muted and clearly secondary. Some good sweetness amd lemon zest present and just a hint of tell tale sign of age, nutty carmel. Delicate, extremely well balanced, and made to pair with a light dinner entre or gentle seafood apps. Very good, sound wine, not likely to improve much, but drinks well and expands somewhat with air. Don't see it improving, in fact, perhaps slowly fading.

  • Chef Nita's Tasting Menu (Craig's House): I did not take detailed notes, but this was a lovely, middleweight village Meurasult that is quite marked by new oak at this stage of evolution. Really classy and well-proportioned, with moderately intense (almost understated) fruit. Lafon's village wines are, to my palate, almost always 1er Cru quality and this bottle was no exception. This has future upside if it does not succumb to premox.
