Mike and Mel in town. Again color defies it's age. Mike and I used to drink a ton of Bordeaux and we were very impressed with how youthful the wine was. Cassis and a mix of red fruit with a touch of earth. Really needed something fatty to eat. Give a few more years. Purchased from HDH.
Nose shows super-reduced, stewed fruit: blackberry, blueberry, rhubarb, beetroot, and sweaty saddle. Beautiful structure: hard and spiky on the entry, yet softening in the mouth. Hairy tannin over strong acidity, with flavours of graphite, saddle leather, blackberry, star anise, smoky oak, and lemon peel. Intensely tannic, yet super-open and drinkable.
We drank this yesterday evening along side a Chateau Margaux 82. Crimson red in colour showing its youthfulness despite being 26 years old. On the nose a blend of dried red and black fruits, hints of wood. Lovely on the palate, well balanced. Very good length. A complete wine.

(Lynch Bages) Waterfall came first in the nose of the 1989 Lynch Bages, which is not that common in Bordeaux. There was a bit of stable in the nose, but not really quite that. There was some espresso, but not really quite that, either. Cola, that was there really, as was peanut J. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks – sautéed string beans yum! The palate was big and rich, quite enormous and even more impressive in its power than the Leoville Barton. There was enough alcohol here for a high school prom. The ’89 was still quite young. It was big, black and dark. Did someone say something about….never mind (95).
(Lynch Bages) was served out of magnum, and a bruiser accordingly. There was an intense nose that definitely needed some air, but once you got past the windex, cat.s pee and alcohol action, there was meaty, beefy fruit with deep cassis, tobacco, earth and pencil shavings. The palate was very tasty with flavors of beef, cassis, pencil and earth, with a long earthy, rocky finish. The wine was outstanding with great power and finesse, and secondary coffee grind flavors
