  • Drank 10 bottles at 2023 Spring dinner/Georges; were OK but 2 were somewhat Oxidized

  • Tasting notes of others here seem to capture the essence of my experience. This is more intriguing than charming. An aged prune note persisted on the nose. The palate was far more pleasurable with traces of red fruit interspersing with mature floral and earth notes. The tannins are smooth but emphatic. For a spell, while it drank like a noteworthy mature Burgundy. At other times, it was more of a tough customer. Overall, very good,

  • Very good structure and nose of forest floor and dark cherries, but lacking depth and with only a medium finish

  • After a couple hard as nails bottles over the years, this has finally softened to the point of being enjoyable. That being said there isn't the depth of flavor that you would hope to see after 20+ years and waiting through the dead period. Soft body with some cherry but mostly savory flavors that you almost associate with an aged Northern Rhone -- blood and iron. There was a good streak of acidity that made it pleasurable but there is a feeling that the best that this wine had to offer never came out, and never will. Will last for a lot longer but I don't think it will be better than today. Sadly this is a theme with most of the 98 burgundies i have had, unfulfilled promise.

  • Pale ruby with brick dust. Was very much hoping this would hold up against the outstanding 1996 I had recently; alas, this vintage did not perform as well. Nose is still powerful and fascinating with lovely gamey notes, but the wine is thinner on the pallet, more acidic and with a shorter finish. Still pleasant, but not at the level I was hoping for.
