(Ponsot Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée l'Abielle) Medium ruby red. The nose starts with a little undergrowth then soil, both fade to reveal a diffuse red-fruit curtain - improvement is required and the patient are rewarded; first with a deeper plum fruit before a lovely high-toned and focused red fruit effect - very nice. The palate is much less ripe than the 01 Bachelet Gevrey that precedes it, providing a sour-cherry fruit which is not unattractive and mirrored by the balanced, mouth-watering yet somewhat tart acidity. The overall texture is excellent with understated velvet tannins. In the end this is a wine that even with food, is just a little too tart - I can enjoy it, but I wouldn’t rebuy it.

Leather, flowers, and gravelly minerals on the nose, with some faint vanilla and very faint barnyard. Raspberry the dominant fruit on the palette, with some red currant and cranberry, with pretty high acidity. The finish is like the finish of eating fresh raspberries, though a little short. Enjoyably austere and tart if a little one dimensional. I preferred Ponsot’s Morey St Denis Cuvee des Grives from the same year and merchant.

About three years since my last bottle. Here, the fruit is on the red-to-brown spectrum and shows sweetness from figs and dates. It's not pruney nor raisiny, but the palate is a touch too sweet to my palate. My last bottle. Sugarman's birthday at Farida.

Who knows with Ponsot. Felt like opening this since was on deck for a while and felt like seeing what was up. On opening very thin and almost vinegary. With a little air, it fleshed out nicely and had a raspberry driven ephemeral fruit note. By time of the last glass it was an excellent, well rounded, complex, old, burg.

Dinner at Danny's (Danny's flat, Hong Kong): Disappointing. Interesting nose on opening but faded in decanter and never regained it in the glass. Initial fruit of cherries but flat mid palette and little finish. Another Burgundy that doesn't encourage me to try more.
