  Drank as part of an early birthday celebration. Slow-O for 6 hours and then enjoyed over another 2 hours. Initially showed quite oxidative and carmelized. Those notes dominated until the last glass. I really wish that I would have given this wine more air. Luckily, the last glass showed incredible beauty that slowly emerged. Crushed violets, dusty perfume, wild raspberries, anise, and worn saddle leather. If the beauty that showed itself in the last glass would have arrived sooner, I have no doubts that my score would be much higher. Lovely weight to the wine throughout. Tannins were fully integrated, fine, and pure.
  I am very happy that the last glass showed me what I was hoping for, as this was a beautiful wine from Elio Grasso.

  The nose was earthy and complex with dark red fruit, mushrooms, dried flowers, hints of citrus rind and dusty, dried cranberries. On the palate, it was still young and structured with tart red fruit, inner floral tones and hints of citrus. The medium-long finish lent a sweet and sour effect as red berry and citrus intermingled.

  1989 Barolo and Barbaresco Single Blind (I Trulli Restaurant, NYC): [Double-decanted around 1pm.] Sweet blackberry perfumed nose. Stunning sweetness. Still quite tannic and acidic, but the fruit wins out.
