  Already popped & poured by the time I got to the dinner venue. This was in a very attractive/pleasing stage - tea-leaves, sweet fruits and bit of sous-bois. This was fully mature, probably in the late stages of its life already. On the palate, one could feel that the fruit was receding, as the acidity came out more on the fore-front. Still very enjoyable on the overall, but advise to drink-up soon...

  53 Year old Bordeaux. Just insane how well this wine held up. Nose was aged but had life it in. Tobacco, cedar block on the nose, light red fruit with some grip to it. Lingering, romantic finish. Every for not a great year this wine was a treat!

  Unlike the Leroy, this greatly surpasses expectations. Mature pale brick with some garnet hanging in the middle. The nose is lovely: sweet red fruits mixed with crushed leaves. Lots of life. The palate is silky and mature with a lovely sweet mid-palate. The finish is a bit short with a slightly metallic note - the wine’s weakness for sure. All in all a lovely way to celebrate turning 50. (91)

  Bouteille achetée à l'encan, sans en connaitre la provenance. Le niveau était très acceptable, mais l'état de l'étiquette était douteuse. Le millésime est également renommé pour être de très mauvaise qualité, alors mes attentes étaient très modestes. Le bouchon est non seulement complètement imbibé, mais aussi totalement friable et se désintègre avec le tire-bouchon. La couleur laisse bien sûr paraître un vieillissement évident, mais sans toutefois être marqué par une teinte orangée qui pourrait nous faire penser au pire. Une fois dans le verre, le premier nez semble exempt de défaut, mais une forte odeur d'alcool se dégage. En bouche, le vin est très souple, mais sans grande complexité, et plutôt court. Le vin change rapidement (dans les 5 à 10 minutes) pour trouver un certain équilibre, et évoluera bien sur les 90 minutes qu'il a été bu. L'équilibre était d'ailleurs l'élément qui m'a le plus marqué. Autrement, cette bouteille n'a probablement jamais rien eu d'un grand vin, mais c'était tout de même intéressant de voir à quel point un grand domaine peut arriver à faire tenir la route pendant près de 50 ans lors d'un millésime médiocre ! Une belle expérience.
