  In line with others I found this vintage of Margaret to be slightly lighter in weight & depth. It did though, present as an enjoyable & elegant wine: long and precise. Cedar and some Margaret River typicity along the eucalypt / bay leaf line. Will be curious to revisit in five or so years when the fruit is a bit more tertiary & see what the structure of the wine is like then.

  After 30 minutes, there are strong smoky bell peppers, blackcurrant, wet earth, cedary oak and dry savoury herbs. Nose reminds me of the heavier version of the coonawarra Cabernet. Palate echoed the nose. Rounded structure with minerals and acidity as the backbone. Finish is clean and deep. Ready to drink now and will age for a decade more.

  Fascinating to see some of my favourite reviewers commenting on this wine: Professor, GM and Alex Garner.
  
  I'm most in Prof's corner - and he liked it, with cavets - nice wine but a tad short on body ['dilute']. Pretty much everything else is there - as one can deem from the reviews of GM and Alex: berry good flavours [excuse me?], silky tannins, solid and not over done acid, overall balanced (body aside).
  
  In good shape. No signs of tiredness - how could it at 8 years, from Margaret River and under Stelvin [cork be damned!]. Yet I feel no confidence extra age will add complexity given the under-done body; I hope I'm wrong :-)

  Pretty Cab/Merlot/Malbec blend but disappointing compared to my memories of the 2007. Less herbal, more dilute. Attractive flavour but simple and soft. No tannin to speak of.
  
  Sealed with screw cap. 13.5% (but then Woodlands say this for every vintage, so not sure how reliable this is).

  2010 was an excellent vintage in Wilyabrup, with excellent rainfall after flowering and dry warm weather all summer. The fourth in a string of great vintages, the 2010 red wines from Woodlands are viscous and powerful.
  
  Woodlands ‘Margaret’ is sourced entirely from the Woodlands Vineyard. The Cabernet Sauvignon portion comes from a slope on the south of Woodlands that wraps around a 90 degree radius from east to north. The fruit on this slope receives a great deal of direct sunlight from morning to mid-afternoon, leading to rich full-bodied wines.
  
  The Merlot and Malbec plots that make up the remainder of the ‘Margaret’ come from our west-facing slope of deep loam soil. This slope receives the most direct afternoon sunlight at Woodlands, and produces more exotic fruit characters in the finished wine. In certain years, including 2010, our ‘Margaret’ also includes Merlot and Malbec from our oldest plantings on the original south facing slope – the same fruit that makes up our Reserve de la Cave range.
  
  The colour is an intense crimson. The nose is very perfumed, showing cedar and blackcurrant, spice, and brambly dark berry fruits. The flavours of the palate mirror the nose, and combine with polished ripe tannins running through the wine. The wine finishes with lingering dark berry fruits and fine-grained tannins.
  
  A great wine from a great vintage! Bottled in Stelvin, our 2010 ‘Margaret’ will be best enjoyed from 2023 to 2030.
