L'enfant Jesus is a somewhat sui generis Beaune. Far above the others, and in special vintages, almost grand cru in its leanings. never as complex as a superior appellation, its hefty price is justified by both its history and its elegance. The 2005 is indeed ready to pour. I decanted half and left half in the bottle. No decant required. This is fresh, soft pinot, with an elegant melange of raspberry, violet, currant and a nice mouth-filing softness that extends through the palate. It should develop more complexity in the next few years. Very terrorir driven and very nice now.
A Mix Grand Cru & Premier Cru Red Burgs Plus a Few More (Edina Country Club, Edina, MN): Dark red color. Slow-O for 1 hour. Drank 2 glasses over 3 hours. This was even better than the bottle we had 3 weeks ago. A wonderful nose that is open and continues to expands over the first 30 minutes. Highly perfumed with minerals, florals, raspberry, and currants - ripe and lovely fruits. The palate is ripe with nice acid, currant, cherry, berry, subtle wood, and a 60+ second finish. My and group #2 WOTN.
Monthly Tasting Group: Cote de Beaune (The Lynn on Bryant, Mpls, MN): Very dark red color. PNP, drank 1+ glass over 90 minutes. The nose starts off with some spicy wood qualities out of the gate, cedarbox, berry, black cherry, dry earth. The nose becomes very fruity and ripe with time in the glass and shows a touh of burnt rubber. The palate is deep and full bodied, very concentrated, lush fruits, berry, cherry, currants, wood, fairly well integrated tannin, and a really long finish. Shows very good promise and is quite enjoyable now with some air. 92(+)pts.
This is really coming into its own, and is drinking beautifully now. I greatly regret drinking so many of my other bottles before they were mature. Medium weight, it is a wine that I like to drink with sushi of all things.
