For those that are a fan of the style this should be very appealing. Fully resolved with a velvety mouthfeel and very forward Russian River fruit profile. I don't really see much reason to further age this, though probably won't really hurt.
This was my Easter wine. 14.3% abv. First impression: spicy, then juicy and fun. Raspberries figure into the descriptors along with sassafras and the spices. I don't see any indication that the 2005 is jaded or faded; on the contrary, it has a youthful exuberance. It was paired with veal piccata the first evening and with ham and potato salad the final evening.
A tasty wine. Cherry, raspberry, pomegranate and a little earth. The cork was pesky and so I was pleased the wine was ok and not spoiled. Great with our roast duck and with the potatoes cooked in duck fat. And on its own, too. Drink now. Great qpr for $40 on sale. With Donna and Jen in Princeton.
