  • Purchased upon release; Decanted and immediately followed. Comes across port-like on the nose but incredibly rich and lush on the palate. TONS of sediment throughout the bottle and even after pouring the wien through a strainer; this really needed a coffee filter.

All were really impressed; sorry for the poor notes but dont want to inadvertently leave this in inventory.

  • Once a bombshell of fruit, now on the decline; on the nose the fruit stands up still to the nice earthy and cigar aroma. On the palate, cassis with prune and a bit of blackberry. With the classic PS finish that reminds me a bit of grape bubblegum. A good example and very much enjoyable. One last bottle left, will drink it in the next year or two.

  • My final bottle of the iconic 05 SR PS. I've had nearly a case of this wine since it came out, and it's on my very short list of wine from my journey that has always been close to my heart. It just seemed to be there when I was in a place to be moved by it, many times this happening across different settings and groups. I've hung onto this last bottle for a long time, waiting to share it with the right setting. Last night we had a 'bring a special bottle' to dinner, and this was clearly the outlier amongst Haut Brion, Leflaive, Guigal. We arrayed it to the end, where it could be enjoyed as the closing wine of the 7 bottles we all had shared. I had the bottle stood up for a few days to settle the sediment. I decanted it about 2 hours before the meal, rinsed the bottle of the sediment and took to dinner. What's here now after close to 2 decades? Brewed coffee, vanilla and some heat in the aroma. Coffee, toffee, dark chocolate and blackberry are the wine's core, with Dave at the table saying there was something tropical too, like a coconut or pineapple. Ultimately, the wine is showing no fade to me, as there remains good intensity and concentration, and I suspect it can go another decade. Goodbye my friend, and thank to Kelly Petersen for all the good memories that come from a wine like this one.

  • This was absolutely singing. Complex, layered, and such unique flavors. Delicious with a grilled top sirloin with a little Smith and Wolensky sauce. This could wait a while yet but it's fully ready now.
I was a little surprised it was so good because the cork completely fell apart. I had to filter it out in tiny crumbs.

  • Decanted - lotta sediment - aired out for a hour. Consistent with prior experience: nice bouquet of black and blue fruits with a bit of dark chocolate in the back end. Palate is full bodied with the very same fruit profile but with a thicker-than-expected concentration and just a hint of prune, as to avoid the impression of over-ripeness. Giving it more air did not lead to any loss in freshness - got a lot of attention from a couple of my guests until it was done after 5 hours since popping. As it is far from fading, I'm glad I have more than a few bottles left.
