Allowed to breathe in glass 1 hour. Clear inky dark garnet color. Wonderful notes of mixed black fruits and their liqueurs; licorice, fennel, bay leaf, sweet earth, mocha, bittersweet chocolate, vanilla. Bordeaux-like in its balanced restraint and sense of terroir. Full body, seamless, satin-velvet mouthfeel. Improved with air, held up fine under vacuum stopper in refrigerator for 4 days. Outstanding.

Underrated and underscored on this site. This 2000 Private Reserve smells of rosemary, cassis, blackberry, and some mesquite. Don't laugh--it reminds me of Haut Brion.
Blackberry, black currant, coffee-rubbed ribs, cedar, and thyme palate.
Tannins not completely resolved, which is nice. Gives this some backbone to uphold the surprisingly young fruit.

Red fruit, currant, candied cherries, jammy, pepper, cedar, fig, herbal notes, cassis, acidity on the finish. Lacks layers of complexity. It's fruit and herbs. It shows well for 23 year old wine, go at least 10 more.

I found this rather fresh. I drank it towards the end of a night that included white burgundy, barolo, red burgundy, and a few other bottles. This surprised me with its freshness and still-present lush red fruits. It has definitely mellowed considerably with its age, though it is still nicely structured. I'd drink this now-its still quite delicious, but is likely to begin to retrace downwards in the near future.

From Salmanzar, decanted 3 hours
Deep purple colour, glorious ripe fruits.
Evolved some over 2-3 hours.
Wonderful expression of Napa cab.
