Acker Auction - April 2018 (Marea in NYC): One of my WOTD. Started very musty and closed down and just felt a bit off. So stuck it in a decanter and gave it some time and it clearly appreciated it. With some time (maybe an hour or two) get more floral and eucalyptus and mint notes. With a bit more time hints of black fruits (although not overpowering). A very serious and interesting wine. Enjoyed.

Big Meat and Serious Syrah on a gorgeous summer afternoon (Westport, CT): What a treat to get to taste this lovely mature wine. Another one of my favorites from the tasting this is just all pulled together and integrated and delicious. The nose is a little more muted than some of the younger wines, but no mustiness or anything like that. Definitely in the prime drinking window now.

Big Meat and Serious Syrah (Westport, CT): Wow - so this could have been my WOTN, but I just love old Grange. It's black fruits and sweet cinnamon and lots of eucalyptus. You can tell it has age. Everything is such great balance. In a perfect spot. Just really lovely.

Opened at dinner. Poured into decanter.Consumed 1.5-2 hours later. Haunting developed shiraz/ berry nose as decanting , which did not "blow off". Wonderful mature Grange Shiraz mid palate, with no residual wood or tannin sharpness. Flavours of caramel, berries, cloves! Good length.
An aged Grange right "in the zone" This bottle had been well stored and was top of neck level.

Was the best wine of the night among several 1970 wines. Has a ton of life left
