Community Tasting Notes (14) Avg Score: 91.6 points

  • Flower day, much more opulent than the last bottle. Spicy, lavender, bright red and blue fruit, rose, some tea-like characters I commonly find in this vintage, still too young/just vintage austerity and slightly rougher tannins. But what a nose; old Potel is golden. 93+

  • Defined red fruit with ample vintage acidity, light greeness and vanilla oak earthiness. Classically made and requires further aging. 92+

  • "Le clos des 60 ouvrees" is really keeping up to the modern times. 26 years old, and still a beauty. Deep brownish, but still with a fine, deep ruby core. The nose is just mesmerizing: raspberries, red cherries, wet earth, mint, as well as a balsamic touch. Sometimes the nose is almost enough. It is hard to follow up the nose, and the mouth doesn't quite match. Sweet attack dominated by raspberries and red cherries, at the mid palate some fine tannins kick in, and then there is an almost overwhelming acidity at the end of the tasting curve. It all comes together in a fine and fresh raspberry aftertaste that sits for a minute or so. This is just impressive. The wine from this producer has sometimes seemed a little "blunt", but this is just elegance. Aging has done this wine well. I guess the score is too conservative, but it is hard not to give the emotional side too much place here. Drunk with a grilled free range chicken with newly picked "funghi porcini" this was a 100.

    Tasted blind.

Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of dust, black pepper, asphalt and dark cherries. Flavors of tart red berries, red cherries and black raspberries. Bright acidity, drying tannin, full bodied. Drink now with some air.

My guess was a 1983 Volnay.

  • Tasted blind. A very meaty nose here, with quite a bit of brett and farmyard, game, earthy notes and dark cherries. I was guessing Dugat-Py.
