It is always accentuated how well these wines age, so how about one at the age of 15? Well, the color is impressive: dark ruby, almost black core with an amber rim. The nose is clearly tertiary with dominating tones of cedar, camphor - just like a gentleman's room that hasn't been aired for a while. Clearly in the vein of classic (fruitless) Bordeaux. Full bodied attack, dusty tanning up front, a fine sweetness on the mid palate, good acidity, not much fruit left here. The aftertaste is dominated by camphor and cedar, and very dry. A demanding wine, good with hearty food, but a challenge to drink on its ow. Drink now.

Second of three bottles and we are coming around to liking this wine. Leather and spice on the nose and plenty of red fruit on the palate this time around. The dry tannins are still present, but we had this with food (grilled chicken with Mediterranean spices and bread) and that made for a more enjoyable experience than last year’s. We’ll wait at least five years to open our last bottle.

Fiercely tannic, old school rusticity, should be a stellar wine in 10 years. Not for the faint of heart. I wish I had a case for my future grandchildren.

Nice nose with a bit of funk, cherry and spice on the palate, but the very harsh and persistent tannins ruin the experience. Hard to believe more time in the bottle will render the wine enjoyable.
