I suspect a little beyond its prime. The nose was a bit subdued, as was the palate. Typical musk and red berries were there, just turned down somewhat.

2001. In this bottle the fruit has been lost a little to other tertiary flavours including earth, tobacco leather. Still very enjoyable but probably past it’s peak and relying on bottle variation and storage history to snare a good one. Drink up if still holding this vintage.

Covid-19 Intro/Retro (Chez Hughes): Blind. An exotic nose of smoky black fruit and spice (just bordering on cough syrup, but not quite). The palate is richly fruited with loads of herb, spice and light camphor notes. Still fresh and balanced. Clearly a mature classic Shiraz. My #3, Group #3.

Much more earth than fruit, still drinkable but well past its peak. Not even a shadow of its former self, last tasted/ enjoyed in 2005.

My final magnum drank way better than I expected for its age. Our group tasting gave it very positive comments still had great colour and aroma.
