  • Drank over 5 hours. Absolutely wonderful, if reserved, notes of wild red berry fruit, spice, floral notes and a background of wet stone on the nose. Outstanding detail already on the palate which was airy, pure yet concentrated and bright and fresh. This is so young and primary but the power without weight elements are already evident. Long, finish with just the right amount of verve.

  • Tasted with all 2009 and 2010 Clos St Jacques. Colour medium ruby. As with the 2009 Rousseau, a subdued bouquet. The nose is dominated by spice, red berry, bramble, underbrush and some nice savoury aromas. There is also oak here, but it is not overdone. On palate, this wine is all about exquisite balance. There is real power, structure and intensity here, but all kept in proportion and seemingly achieved without great weight. It is understated, similarly to but even more so than the 2009, but with all of the structure and drive sitting in the background. The acids are visible but in beautiful balance and proportion. The tannins are silky with lovely minerality a key flavour profile. Everything you could look for in a classical Burgundy for long term cellaring. 95.

  • Wildman Tasting at Peninsula (Chicago, IL): This has a spicier nose than the Clos de la Roche, though the palate comes across with much sweeter red fruit. Quite rich and intense, but this shoulders the heft with ease. Long finish.

  • Les Domaines Familiaux de Bourgogne (Paris): Far more substance in this 1er Cru. Really elegant nose! The structure was absolutely convincing and subtle. Inspiring fruit flavours. Very expressionate and elegant fruit! A lot of depth and power! Fantastic length!
