  • Berns Steakhouse! Last bottle. Perfect condition and wow! What this winery strives for. It just takes 70 years. Took 30 min to open up and then it was the most pleasant, sophisticated wine I’ve had in a while. The finish was a solid 30 seconds. If you have these, there’s no rush, which is unbelievable. Certainly in prime with at least 5 more years if properly stored. It’s crazy that this was more fruit forward with nice cherry notes. No earth, tobacco, tertiary notes as you would expect.

  • 2nd bottle of ‘50 Montrose I’ve had from Bern’s Steakhouse in last 6 months. This bottle was very, very good yet it was also a bit of a juxtaposition compared to the last bottle of 1950 Montrose I recently consumed.

It opened up with the same metallic mouth sensation that took a little longer to blow off this time. The wine continued to evolve showing rapid wine movement with highs and lows about every 15 mins. I swear we called time of death on this Bordeaux Zombie at least three times before we got it right.

Despite playing Atari Pong with our emotions, the wine still showed beautiful bright red fruits of cherry and raspberry with graphite, cedar and iron in the mix. Let’s just say if the last bottle was in the 96 - 97 range for me, this would be a 93 - 94...Cheers!

  • Cellared @ Bern’s Steakhouse since upon release. A wine of perfect provenance, that when poured, appeared 40 years younger!

An initial metallic funk blew off within a few swirls leading to an expressive bouquet of bright red fruits revealing raspberries and cherries, graphite and cedar. The palate was equally pleasurable with its deep, dark core and long finish. This Montrose continued to evolve over the next few hours of consumption. The last sip was, dare I say, the best sip...mind bending how incredible properly stored old bottles of Bordeaux perform 🔥🔥🔥

  • The 1950 Montrose is another success here, and another vintage (like 1947) that is typically of greater stature in Pomerol than the northern Médoc. While not quite as concentrated as the 1945, this is also a very dense, savoury wine, with a bouquet of crisp red fruits, cassis, cedar and summer truffle. Still firmly in the post-war paradigm.
