  • Last bottle from a case bought 5 years ago. Durand did the job again, most of the cork were pulled out intact except small pieces at the tip fell into the bottle. Nose was not entirely clean on the first sniff, notes of moldy foods, dark earth, and a slight hints of TCA. Most of the funky notes were gone after 30 mins. Amazingly this bottle still had some tannins hanging around , bright acidity level, decent complexity and good length, one of the best bottles from the case. What a fifth growth and what a bargain! I paid £340 per case in 2017.

  • 2nd last bottle from an OWC. PnP. This was showing much better than previous bottle in ‘21. Floral nose with ever so slight hints of Brett. Bright acidity, tannins all resolved, slightly drying finish. Pretty good drink for a 56 years old 5th growth. Should consume the last bottle sooner rather than later.

  • PnP. Slightly bretty on the nose, not entirely clean. Fairly lean on the palate, drying finish. Not a particular good bottle from the same case.

  • Christmas Day 2020 (My place, Kent Street): Served with rack of lamb and roasted asparagus.
Popped and poured. A fair whiff of cellar stink initially but this blew off to show all of the tertiary you could ever wish for - leather, cigar box, old bookcases, dusty hallway, mushrooms tending to truffle...on the palate it has some nominal tannic burr and a sense of wetness. barely enjoyable in it's dotage and the lesser of the two 66's.

  • Wow what a treat. Cork crumbled, mild sign of seepage. Bought at auction for $80. After 30 min of air, strong barnyard hay manure smells but there is still fruit in the wine, black fruit notes and even a fine tannic finish. A little light mid palate. The fruit profile is very similar to the 2016 I had a few months ago, so much so I will do a side by side between the two next time. Oldest wine I have drank, glad it turned out well and am looking forward to my remaining 4. Just noticed, only 11.5% ABV!
