Just short of the plumminess of the bottle of three years ago, this is a great bottle, although atypical of Caillerets in its power and massiveness and without the delicate Caillerets texture. A haunting nose, dark fruits, full-bodied, round, long, pure. Cellared since original release.

I'm biased, as this was my epiphany bottles of Burgundy many years ago (opened in honor of Jeremy's wedding). Opened at 5 pm, to an immediate burst of fruit into the entire kitchen. Consumed starting at 6:30, this was phenomenal; the nose is darker fruit, with even a touch of orange peel, but you can already feel the power. The palate is definitely rich, but the minute sweetness of the fruit (this is 90) is very well framed by both the fruit's lift and the acidity - despite there being some viscosity here, the balance is impeccable. Do I think this is getting better from here? No - it starts to fade a bit after 15 or 20 minutes in the glass. But who cares; it's absolutely spectacular right now. The power of Potel pere - I just wish I had a lot more of this.

The dreaded 1990 pruniness is just beginning to invade this wine. Still very drinkable and the pruniness is probably well disguised with the right foods, but this wine is not what it formerly had been. Cellared since original release.
Add on edit -- the second day, the pruniness is gone. The wine is ripe with dark plum fruits. Not really much Caillerets character, but still a decent bottle of Volnay.

Floral and undergrowth but not as clean as this can be.

Forest floor, lightly floral aromatics. Clean, persistent and good retention of fruit.
