Upon opening, this was a brute. Broody, blunt and no-nonsense were the thoughts that went through my mind. Over a couple of hours, it calmed down although you could never accuse it of being a quiet and retiring type.
Black fruit or plum, it was quite chocolaty and rich. The nose and finish also had floral and white pepper notes. Excellent mouth feel although at times, it felt a bit flabby. Acidity and structure were fine, indicating it has a fair way to go. Drink now or 7+ years.

Appearance: med garnet Nose: med+ intensity, rustic, savoury, leather, mushroom, mocca, eucalyptus, Tabacco, black plum, black cherry, blueberry, toast, smoke, developing. Palate: dry, high acidity, high but very smooth tannin, high alcohol, medium plus body, prounounced flavor intensity, coffee and dried herbs coming through, long finish. Overall, outstanding wine. Can drink now, has potential for further ageing. More elegant than I thought. The alcohol doesn’t feel like 14% at all. Tannins are really smooth and integrated. Very complex both on the nose and palate. Charming tobacco characters. Persistent length. Although you can keep it, I think it drinks perfect now. Overall the quality is consistent vs the last bottle. It’s good value at this price point.

Appearance: clear deep ruby with garnet rim Nose: clean medium plus intensity, aromas of black olive, savoury, meaty, forest floor, nutmeg, mushroom, blackberry, ripe black cherry, wet leaves, rosemary. It’s developing. Palate: dry, medium plus acidity, high tannins (silky and smooth), high alcohol, full body, medium plus intensity, dark chocolate coming through, the finish is long. Overall, it’s very good. Can drink now, but has potential for further ageing. The flavour intensity is a letdown but the finish is very long and impressive.

Drank this at our regular year end wine session at Summer Palace, Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
Light purple turning brick red on the rims. A touch of sweetness on the palate, with notes of cassis, blueberries, liquorice, chocolate and tobacco. The wine is very well integrated at this stage but the energy and potential is somewhat restrained and doesn't shine through.
Will recommend a longer decant the next time before consumption.

Aromas of chocolate, blackcurrants, ripe fruits and blackberries.%0d%0aStill primary and rich fruity entry, exhibits blackcurrants, sweet fruits and milk chocolate. Smooth and pretty robust on the mid-palate.%0d%0aLong lingering finish with chewy tannins.%0d%0aPretty good but not as complex as The Coppermine Road, although slightly better than Elderton Ashmead.
