For some reason this producers 06’s Kabinett and Spatlese have an unusually deep yellow color. They showed this upon release and while not a fault, I find it an interesting curiosity. Others have written about flawed corks but, I do not believe that’s the case. Fine tartaric crystals on cork and neck of bottle. Nose shows a kaleidoscope of yellow stone fruits, dried apricot jumps out, orange oil, Verbena and lemon. Also scents of Tokaji Aszu adding to its complexity. Big for a spatlese, good concentration, dried apricot, dried longan fruit, and hints of citrus preserves. Fine underlying beam of acidity provides a mouthwatering tangy golden fruit finish. Interestingly, Not a typical Mosel Riesling. Complex and delicious none the less. Purchased as direct import, stored accordingly and enjoyed 40-55 without food. Drink now – 8 years… Na zdrowie

  • White tartaric crystals on cork and in bottle. Color yellow/golden with hints of orange. Nose of bees wax, dried yellow flowers, orange blossoms, touch of petrol with dry brown sugar. Palate starts full with apricot, dried white pear, touch of bitter orange oil on the backend. Acidity kicks in at mid palate washing away the fruity entry. Delicious wine, more goin on here, but hard to put into words. The deepness of the flavor profile suggests auslese pradikat. Another 3 years and the petrol smell should be gone. Enjoyed at 45-50 with scallops in brown butter. Purchased from distributor as direct import and stored accordingly. Drink now – 10 years… Na zdrowie

  • Nicely styled, with clean lines and above-average depth of fruit. However, this was missing any real complexity that might have otherwise pushed the score higher. I picked this up for $6 on closeout, so I'm certainly not going to complain. A decent enough food wine, which, after all, is really the point.
