Nose of black currants, dark fruit, with herbal notes, more of the same on the palate, tart on the mid palate interferes with it's better qualities, medium/big body, not my style, touch simple, medium/long finish.
Not quite the standout as the 2007, 2008, and 2010 vintages, and less flamboyant but more earthy than the 2011. Very interesting wine, fruit and terroir driven with delectable Italian herb, graphite, pepper, tomato, ink, and mineral accents. Stalwartly structured, polished, elegant, balanced. Serious wine. Not an extended ager; drink by 2025. 93-94.
Wonderfully in balance with rich fruit and tannins in harmony. Not oaky or overly alcoholic this is a great wine with a deep purple color, a strong and enjoyable nose and layers of enjoyment. Highly recommend this.
Opaque purple color turning garnet at the rim with a reflective edge. The nose is attractively perfumed on high octane with notes of red and black fruits, licorice, violets, mocha and pipe tobacco. The palate is full-bodied but hollows out on the mid-palate with a fleshy texture. Flavors of of black currant, black licorice, espresso, cigar box, dark chocolate, smoke, and toasted oak form the core. This is a very expressive wine that's elegant and meaty in character and tends to be dry on the back of ripened black fruits. Finishes long and heightened with hints of eucalyptus and dried oregano. Drink now with a 15-minute decant until 2024.
