De couleur or foncé, on y retrouve un aspect rancio mais bien vivant, avec les noix, la vanille, le citron confit, les abricots séchés, la cire d'abeille et j'en passe! Complexe et très agréable. Le corps fait penser à un rouge, l'acidité est élevé, on a de la profondeur et une longue finale imprégnant une saine amertume en bouche. Très bon.
This was taken from storage at 48F and opened for a light airing while allowing it to come up to ~57F. It was served with chicken provencal, porcini saffron risotto, oven roasted asparagus, and finished with a selection of Spanish and Vermont cheeses. This was exquisite with our dinner. It is a distinctive style of white wine that you will love or detest, but never feel indefinite about. It is a wine that needs food and will find few friends as a solo sipper. The angular, lightly oxidative, oaky, saline aspects provided a fascinating counterpoint to the green apple, lemon rind, beeswax, vanilla, honey, marcona almond group. With a solid weighty mouthfeel, it seemed very precise, energetic, and well balanced with a finish that slowly trailed off. This was my second bottle of this and I am smitten. Priced ~ $25, it is an outstanding value………if you like this stye.
Oxidative style whites and orange wines: Nose starts off with reduction - there were aromas of plasticine and watercolours, with air it changed to creamy-roasted notes, herbs, buttery sweetness. Multilayered palate, full, round and pleasant. It seems that the winemaking was stronger than the hot vintage here. (88)
Improved on day two, there appeared a good vanilla sweatness and excellent mouthfeel. (91)
The was an excellent bottle, especially considering the vintage. Fino, malt, and candle wax on the nose. Trademark oak, in that crazy way that works so well for LdH whites. And despite the oak, age, oxidation, and hot vintage, a freshness springs from this wine on the palate with citrus notes brightening its more brooding characteristics.
LdH whites are so unique and one of my favorite wines. Fantastic value as well.
