From a bottle opened last night at my Mom’s 91st birthday dinner 👍🍷.
This was my least favorite wine at the dinner, but that is not really a criticism. It was just outpaced by the ‘06 Produttori Normale and the 2000 Produttori Moccagatta. But this still held some interest. Rio Sordo is not (at least IMO) one of their top tier vineyards, and this wine displays a touch of heat on the nose. But it is fairly seamless and expansive on the palate, and has a lengthy finish that I am still tasting as I type this note.
I don’t see any further upside for the wine at this point, so if you have it in your cellar, I’d recommend pulling a cork to check one out.

Ripe, bordering on overripe, fruit. Balsamico as well on the nose.
Better balanced on the nose - adequate acidity, decent persistence. I don't see this wine getting any better at this point, so if you have it in the cellar, think about pulling a cork.

Took a while to start talking, mostly reserved tar, iron, maybe a little rubber at first, and the fruit seemed a little stewed. It was somewhat monolithic on the palate as well, with acid enough for a lift but nothing to fill the gap between that and the ample structure. After only 30 minutes in the glass it started to show some brighter fruit and dried roses, and the fruit progressed to the forefront over the next 2 hours to create a balanced and beautiful wine. Didn't quite reach the high points I've seen in other 20-ish year old Produttori Riservas, but a treat nonetheless.

Opened the '99 and '01 decanted for about 2 hrs. Same elements noted by Outplaying. and also the subtle lovely floral lavender. Agree that if you have the '99 pull it out. The '99 tannins have softened to a more chalky experience - preferring it to the 01 which is still astringent. Interesting to think back about how Aldo characterized the wines when they came out - tight - just wait.....

Opened and decanted 2 hrs the last '99. Still lovely lavender notes and chewy tannins, nice fruit. Paid homage with tajarin
